CRIM 2004 - Cybercrime and Cyber-Deviance

North Terrace Campus - Semester 1 - 2022

This course will provide students with a detailed understanding of cybercrime ? exploring the reasons why cybercrimes occur, as well as how they can be policed and prevented. This will be accomplished in three parts. First, students will develop a deep knowledge of both historical and contemporary forms of cybercrime, such as hacking, phishing, illicit online trading, cyber-violence, amongst others. Next, students will explore the application of relevant criminological theories to explain cyber-deviance and better understand offender pathways into cybercrime. Finally, students will critically appraise and evaluate the current state of policing, crime control and prevention strategies.
