New Director to build on international success

The University of ÐÂÀË²ÊÆ± today announced it has appointed a new Director of its . Ms Joanne Barker will take up the position this April.
Vice-Chancellor Professor James McWha said: "Joanne Barker brings extensive experience in international development and student recruitment and will be key to the University building on its significant international success of recent years.
"The State Government, recognising the importance of international students for the State, has set a of doubling the number of international students in 10 years. The University of ÐÂÀË²ÊÆ± has already contributed significantly to that target and plans to continue its efforts in the international market. I would like to add thanks to Eliza Chui, for the important contribution she has made as Acting Director over the past 11 months."
The University of ÐÂÀË²ÊÆ± has seen the number of international students more than double over the past five years. The value of this result to the state economy was recognised last year when the University won both the Premier's Award for exporting excellence and Education ÐÂÀË²ÊÆ±'s education export award at the Business SA annual export awards.
Ms Barker led Flinders University's international program between May 1999 and June 2003. Most recently she has been Faculty Registrar in the Faculty of Education, Humanities, Law and Theology, the largest of the four faculties at Flinders University.
Ms Barker holds a from the University of ÐÂÀË²ÊÆ±, and postgraduate qualifications from the University of South Australia and La Trobe University.
She has been a member of: the Australian Education International (AEI) Joint Planning Committee and the Australian Education Office (Washington DC) Advisory Committee and has spoken at international conferences on managing international programs in Australian universities.
