Additional review and approval are required for:
- Placements in the United States or Canada: These require an insurance review due to liability limitations. Contact the University’s Insurance Office for guidance before proceeding.

Frequently asked questions
Q: My Host Organisation requires confirmation of insurance before signing the agreement. What should I provide?
If your Host Organisation requests confirmation of insurance while finalising your placement agreement, you can provide the relevant Certificate(s) of Currency:
- For most placements, the Public Liability Certificate of Currency is sufficient.
- For clinical placements, you may also need to provide the Medical Malpractice Certificate of Currency.
University’s insurance only applies to activities that have received formal University approval and is subject to the specific terms and conditions of each policy.
Q: What is a Certificate of Currency, and why is it important?
A Certificate of Currency is a document issued by an insurer confirming that a policy is active, outlining coverage details including policy type, limits, and expiry date (policy year).
It provides assurance that required coverage is in place at the time of contract execution or renewal.
Q: Do I need a signed agreement from all parties to access insurance coverage?
Yes. Insurance coverage only applies to placements that have received formal University approval, including completion of the insurance review process, if required. Coverage begins only after the placement agreement has been signed by all parties — the student, the host organisation, and the University. Allow sufficient time for this process to be completed before the placement begins, as insurance cannot be applied retrospectively.
Q: What happens after my agreement is approved by the University?
Once your placement agreement is approved by the University, you are covered under relevant University’s insurance policies, including Group Personal Accident (e.g., if you sustained a bodily injuries), or Business Travel (if eligible).
The University will indemnify the Host Organisation for any negligent act, error, or omission by you (the student) or University staff during the placement.
Both you and your Host Organisation are responsible for reporting any incident that may lead to a liability claim to the University immediately.
University’s insurance only applies to activities that have received formal University approval and is subject to the specific terms and conditions of each policy.
Q: I’ve sustained an injury during my University-approved placement. What should I do?
